I agree with Peepy-Wolf. Maybe you could represent the pain on another plain. Say something like a realy thin wolf laying, unable to stand, with its head on the ground like it can't even gather the strength to raise it. There's tears in it's eyes and it is ungroomed and just utterly devistated. You could have some blood- a thin drip of blood- our the mouth and maybe a small stream of blood from the nostrils. Like... you look at it and you see that this creature is going to die. And it's all alone, which is odd for a wolf, which brings the betrayal into mind.
